Keep An Eye On Your Property With Quality Home Security Camera Systems

We are lucky, in this day and age, to have access to some amazing technology such as home security camera systems. Home alarms have been around for a long time. The first versions were nothing more than a noisemaker. Someone would break into your house and be blasted with a loud siren that did nothing more than annoy neighbors and force the burglar to wear earplugs. The next generation of alarms featured a way for the alarm to communicate with a central monitoring facility via the phone line. This was a huge development and caused alarms sales to go through the roof. A few years later the alarm companies started to develop wireless systems that could communicate with the monitoring station even if the phone line was cut. Finally, cameras were incorporated bringing about the first home security camera systems.

The available technology is great but that does not mean there are not simple things that even those without a lot of money can do. In fact, even if you use the most state of the art wireless or infra red alarm systems, if you do not adhere to the basics of home security, the advanced equipment is rendered useless. Although most of us do not really think about it often, the doors and locks in your home and office are very important and in most cases below quality standards. Use a metal, or at the very least, a solid core door. You must also have a properly installed deadbolt lock with a throw bolt that is no shorter than one inch. The strike plate must have at least four screws and be securely fastened into the door frame itself. Check around your home or office and if you find that you have anything short of this, consider investing in them to ensure the security of your location. Lastly, install a peephole in your door that has a viewing angle of at least one hundred and sixty degrees to ensure that there are as few blind spots as possible.

When it comes to your windows there are few tips you can follow to make sure that they are secure as they can be. Utilize secondary devices to block your windows so that even if the primary latch or locking mechanism is broken there is still security. Always test the latch system to make sure that it is in good working order and that it is set correctly. Sliding glass doors should have a door pin drilled in or some other type of anti-lift device so that a thief cannot just pop it off of the track and enter.

As previously stated, home security camera systems are great and will allow you to see things that you would not normally be able to. Consider this though; if you don’t use the basic products and techniques to prevent thieves from entering your location, then all the camera will do is allow you to watch them steal all of your possessions. Be proactive instead of reactive and you will be better off in the long run.
